Common Dental Emergencies

Tooth pain: If you are feeling severe tooth pain, over-the-counter pain medications like Tylenol or Ibuprofen. You can also treat facial swelling by holding an ice pack against your mouth. When you eat, chew on the opposite side of your mouth and eat soft foods to not exacerbate your pain.

Knocked out tooth: Stop bleeding at the tooth’s socket by applying pressure to the area with a damp cloth. If you can locate the tooth, pick it up by the crown and rinse it off with water. If you find the tooth, you may transport it to our office in a glass of milk or saliva. Doing so helps preserve the tooth. We may be able to save your tooth if we receive it within a couple of hours. However, if you lose your tooth, we can provide you with a dental implant or other dental restoration.

Broken dental restoration: If your restoration has just broken, do not attempt to replace it on your own. Trying to replace your restoration may damage your teeth and gums. Bring your dental restoration to our office and we will help you determine which restoration you require.

Object lodged between teeth: If you have something stuck between your teeth, try to gently dislodge it with floss. Call our office if you are unable to get it loose. Do not try to remove it with anything other than floss as you could hurt your teeth or gums. We will help you dislodge the object.
