Addressing Dental Emergencies

Learn how to handle emergencies at home before receiving professional dental care at Premier Dentistry.

Tooth pain: You can take an over-the-counter pain reliever to lessen tooth pain. Schedule an appointment at Premier Dentistry in downtown Chicago if this pain persists. If you are experiencing swelling, apply a cold compress to your cheek. Sometimes, severe cases of tooth pain may be caused by tooth decay or a gum infection, which can be treated in our Chicago office.

Knocked out tooth: Locate the lost tooth and pick it up by the crown. You can place the lost tooth in a container of saliva or warm milk to take it to our office. Use a cold compress on the outside of the mouth if there is pain or swelling in your gums. Contact our office immediately for advice on how to proceed. We can try to restore the lost tooth or use other treatment methods for missing teeth such as dental implants, dental bridges, or dentures.

Chipped tooth: Clean the area gently by rinsing it with water. Use over-the-counter pain relievers and cold compresses placed on the outside of the mouth to combat tooth pain. Do not place anything directly on the damaged area of the tooth. We can provide dental veneers or tooth bonding treatment to restore your chipped tooth.

Broken dental restorations: If you have a broken dental appliance, schedule an appointment at our office and bring the broken restoration with you. We will help you to determine the best treatment plan for replacing the appliance so that you can restore your smile. We have prosthodontics with expertise in replacing old or broken dental restorations with new ones.
